This painting was done using traditional stained glass paints, silver stains and glass enamels kiln fired onto his 3mm float glass.
A4.
The color and brillance of this painting is amazing. The photo does not do it justice.
The dark outline was fired first using traditional glass stained colors. Then I added the skin tone and the blue shirt using opaque enamels and fired it again. Finally I added the transparent brown for the hair and the yellow silver stain for the collar. That's 3 firings
Many thanks to Jeff Hamilton, glass artist, for allowing me to use his studio sized kiln. Thanks Jeff. Visit his website at www.stainedglass.com.au

Self Portrait - India Ink on watercolor paper applied with a sable brush
I can't find anyone to pose for me a full hour, so I pull out my desk sized mirror it's back to self portraits.
India ink on watercolor paper. I used a sable brush to apply the black ink. This is harder than it looks.

Full sized cast drawings at Julian Ashtons art school
These are full sized drawings of antique casts, drawn at a 1:1 scale.
They are 2.5 hour drawings, and are most unfinished.
The instructor is very demanding, and there is zero tolerance for drawing errors. If a drawing was slightly out, then I had to correct it before I could continue!
The central drawing is mine. The thumb nail drawings around the outside are the instructor's demontration and instructional drawings. These demonstration drawings are works of art in themselves.
Many thanks to my teacher, Richard Porter.
Thank you Richard.

Reverse glass painting
This is a reverse glass painting.
It's painted on the *back* of the glass in reverse order. That is, highlights go on first, and the background goes on last.
If you make a mistake, there is no way to go back and fix it!
The result is a painting with an incredible gloss.
Transperant acrylics on 3mm glass.

Here is the pencil sketch that I worked from.

First ever oil painting portrait
Here is my first ever oil painting portrait.
It's a portrait of my daughter Ellie painted from life.
Getting a pre-teen girl to sit still for hours on end was more difficult than doing the painting!
A3 sized.
